RUSH: Volunteering at SPCA and Info Session

Categories: Uncategorized

This weekend kicked off Lambda Phi Epsilon’s Alpha Tau chapter’s Spring 15′ Rush! The turnout so far has been amazing and all of us are very excited for the rest of this season’s rush! Our first rush event was a service event this past Saturday at SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and this Sunday was an information session and professional workshop. Our next event will be the VIP Reservations event on Thursday 1/18/15!

The SPCA volunteering (above) had a great turnout. It was early in the morning, but everyone came ready to work! We did a lot of work maintaining the area around the SPCA building, making it look nice and safe for visitors and volunteers alike.

Sunday afternoon’s information session/workshop started out with an information session where a representative of each active class in the class talked about their stories and what drove them to choose Lambdas. Our speakers were Iota class’s Alexander Tran, Kappa class’s Eugene Cai, Mu class’s Kevin Wu, and Nu class’s Richard Young. Following the information session, we had a short intermission followed by a workshop.

The workshop was MC’d by Iota class’s Allen Au and hosted by 3 UVA alumni: Eta class’s Frank Zhai, Eta class’s Nathan Park, and Iota class’s Alexander Tran. The workshop focused on the professional life outside of Lambda Phi Epsilon and outside of school in general. Our alumni talked about the resources available here at the University of Virginia and within Lambda Phi Epsilon, techniques to prepare for interviews, and where to start looking to improve a resume. The workshop was one of the most successful we have ever had and there was a lot of information to learn. Thank you to everyone who showed up! Hopefully you got a lot out of the workshop!
